Crewsaver and Cancer Research UK: A Partnership to Save Lives
10 October 2024

At Crewsaver, our mission has always been about safety – protecting people on the water with our state-of-the-art lifejackets and safety equipment. This year, we’ve extended that mission beyond the marine world by partnering with Cancer Research UK (CRUK) to support their life-saving work in the fight against cancer.

Earlier this year, we launched the limited edition Crewsaver Crewfit Pink Lifejacket, with 100% of donations going directly to Cancer Research UK. We are proud to support this incredible cause and to give back by offering a pink lifejacket to anyone who donates £100 or more. Our goal? To raise as much money as possible to fund cancer research and help more people live longer, healthier lives, free from the fear of cancer.

The Life-Saving Work of Cancer Research UK

In June, our team spent a day at Cancer Research UK HQ at Southampton General to learn first-hand how the funds we’re raising are making a difference. The visit was eye-opening, inspiring, and deeply moving. We were privileged to hear from nurses, researchers, survivors and professors who are at the forefront of the battle against cancer.

Where Your Donations Go

Cancer Research UK’s work is essential, and every penny of the money raised goes towards making real, tangible progress in cancer research, treatment, and patient care.

Early Phase Care: Nurses, directly funded by CRUK, provide vital early-phase care, ensuring that new treatments reach patients swiftly and effectively.

Groundbreaking Research: Many of the leading professors at CRUK are entirely funded by the charity. They are working on groundbreaking ways to kill cancer cells through innovative drug therapies, targeting cancer with specific, smart treatments.

Speeding Up the Process: In an impressive 22-month period, CRUK-funded specialists took an idea from inception to clinical trials. These trials, designed and tailored to patient needs, have made significant strides toward developing bespoke cancer treatments.

The Urgency of Cancer Research

In 2015, Cancer Research UK reported that 1 in 4 people would be affected by cancer. Today, that statistic has risen to a staggering 1 in 2. The fight against cancer is more urgent than ever, and CRUK is at the forefront of finding solutions.

Cancer cells are incredibly complex and vary from person to person. They need clever, targeted treatments that can outsmart them. Precision medicine and clinical trials are crucial in this battle. We learned that through CRUK-funded research, the survival rate for breast cancer could reach 95% with these specialised treatments. In fact, some types of metastatic breast cancers, once thought incurable, are now being cured thanks to breakthroughs funded by CRUK.

This partnership isn’t just about donating; it’s about investing in the future. Every lifejacket sold represents a life saved – both on and off the water.

The Fight is Not Over – Cancer is Not Invincible

The work of Cancer Research UK has shown us that cancer is not invincible. Thanks to their relentless research, more people are surviving cancer than ever before. They are developing smarter, more precise treatments, and there is real hope on the horizon. With continued funding and support, we believe we can help CRUK achieve their vision of a world where cancer is no longer a death sentence.
