At Crewsaver, our mission is to protect and save lives—whether on the water or on land. Recently, members of Team Crewsaver, including Hannah, Izzy, and Emma, joined 1,600 people in Southampton for the Cancer Research UK Shine Walk. Wearing their limited edition pink lifejackets and glow-in-the-dark accessories, they lit up the streets to raise funds for vital cancer research.

A Parade of Light and Hope

The event, which started at Guildhall Square on Friday evening, brought the community together in a parade of light. Starting at 7.30 pm, participants filled the city centre with glowing outfits and determined spirits, walking 10km through the heart of Southampton to show their support for Cancer Research UK (CRUK). It was an unforgettable evening, as people from all walks of life joined forces to raise an incredible £170,000 for the charity.

The atmosphere was electric as participants gathered on the square, where a stage and stalls had been set up to welcome the walkers. The energy of the event carried through as everyone set off, creating a wave of glowing light as they moved through the city.

The Importance of Cancer Research UK’s Work

Cancer Research UK’s mission is to save lives through research, and this walk symbolizes the power of collective action in achieving that goal. Events like the Shine Walk play a crucial role in raising awareness and funds for research that brings us closer to better treatments and cures.   

The statistics are sobering: today, 1 in 2 people will be affected by cancer in their lifetime. CRUK’s researchers are working tirelessly to find ways to reduce that number, focusing on developing precision medicine, clinical trials, and innovative drug therapies. They are determined to create a future where fewer people face the devastating diagnosis of cancer.
