In 2021, Crewsaver was made aware of a notice issued by the Swedish Consumer Agency (SCA) concerning lifejacket cylinder security. Though the SCA's guidance was a recommendation specific to their region and not an internationally mandated standard, Crewsaver took immediate and proactive steps to address the concern—not just for Sweden, but for customers across the globe.
Crewsaver issued a public statement clarifying that the SCA’s concerns had been incorrectly rebroadcast by Amazon and that the original notice applied only to the Swedish market. Despite this, we recognised the importance of advancing safety across all regions. That same year, we introduced the EXOLOK Cylinder Locking System to all relevant lifejackets in our range as standard - a pioneering innovation that secures the gas cylinder in place, delivering visible assurance to users and setting a new benchmark in personal flotation device safety.
The EXOLOK system wasn't just a fix; it was a forward-thinking enhancement developed to ensure that all Crewsaver lifejackets, irrespective of where they are used, benefit from the highest standards in safety and security. For over four years now, this system has not only fully addressed the original concerns raised by the SCA, but gone beyond, establishing a globally robust solution that works across a wide range of lifejacket designs.
Unfortunately, despite these advancements and our ongoing transparency, we are aware that some communications from Amazon in 2025 continue to wrongly suggest that Crewsaver lifejackets fail to meet the SCA’s guidance. These claims are unfounded and outdated. Crewsaver lifejackets equipped with the EXOLOK system are fully compliant with international safety expectations and represent one of the most advanced solutions on the market today.
