There is no global or EU product recall. All Crewsaver lifejackets remain
compliant with all relevant standards and are safe to use. The SCA’s recommendations and rulings are only applicable in Sweden.
The SCA has taken the decision to stop the sale of lifejackets into Sweden that do not meet the following criteria:
“The gas cartridge must be fixed in the trigger mechanism or designed to require two consecutive independent steps to loosen the cartridge.”
They have also asked that a retrospective solution is offered to existing owners of lifejackets in Sweden.
This decision affects many brands and lifejackets available on the market today but is only relevant to consumers in Sweden. The entire Crewsaver range remains either ISO or SOLAS approved and will continue to be sold and save lives as is in all other regions of the world.
Crewsaver, and many other lifesaving organisations, have always maintained that an inflatable lifejacket is not a ‘fit and forget’ product, and that pro-active maintenance is essential to ensure good working order over time. This is well documented to include ensuring that the gas cylinder is screwed tightly into the operating mechanism. This is evidenced in our user manuals and ‘how to’ videos available to all consumers on the Crewsaver website.
We do however take the SCA’s concerns very seriously. In response to the SCA’s
recommendations Crewsaver has sought to increase consumer awareness through its highly successful #LifejacketSafe campaign (see the Crewsaver website for more details). Crewsaver has also sought to eradicate the potential risk in the future by innovating a new market leading solution under the name EXOLOK. This upgrade will be fitted as standard to new product manufactured in 2021 and made available to the market for retrofit during the 2021 season. It was incorrect of Amazon to mention this product prior to release.
If you have purchased an inflatable lifejacket made by Crewsaver before 2021 and remain concerned please contact us at Crewsaver.sales@survitecgroup.com.
